What this page helps you decide: which light weapon to aim your next forge at, and whether the class is worth committing to at all.

Light is the largest weapon class in the game at 38 entries and it is also the cheapest to forge: three ore per attempt at a stated 100 percent success rate, against ten for a staff and sixteen for a heavy. That ore cost is the whole argument for the class. The community wiki's FAQ names light swords as the strongest weapon type in the game and gives value as the reason, pointing at attack speed against the slow, heavy swing of the heavy class. The published numbers back the value framing rather than the raw power one: light tops out at 12.5 on Betrayal, while heavy reaches 16.5, so you are trading about a quarter of the peak damage figure for a fifth of the ore cost. Thirty-six of the 38 carry a published attack value and two do not, and those two are worth explaining rather than printing as ones.

How the class is distributed

The 36 published values are not spread evenly. Six weapons sit at 5, five at 6, five at 7, four at 8, six at 9, two at 10, six at 11, one at 12 and one at 12.5. The median is 8 and the mean is 8.10, so half the class sits at or below 8 while the interesting half is bunched in two clusters, one at 9 and one at 11. The practical reading is that there is no smooth ladder to climb here: you go from the 9 cluster to the 11 cluster in one step, and then there are only two weapons above that. If you already hold something at 11, the remaining upgrade on offer is 13 percent, which is a lot less than the effort of chasing it suggests.

The class skills, which are documented for light and almost nothing else

The second wiki lists a consistent structure for weapon skills: six basic skills and three ultimates per class, plus a scroll skill. For light weapons the basics are Dash, Swings, Thunder Strike, Giant Slash, Triple Slash and Flame Dash, and the ultimates are Spin, Sword Rain and Black Hole. That is one of only three classes with named skills anywhere. The other wiki's skills page carries image slots with names like Staff1 through Staff7, which are unfilled labels rather than skill names, and the bow, fist and sickle classes have no named skills on either wiki. So light is the best documented class in the game as well as the cheapest, which is a fair reason to start here.

One name that settles a spelling argument

The light weapon list contains Gray's Sword. That matters beyond this page, because the tutorial NPC who opens your skill tree is written Gray on the official-branded wiki and Grey on two third-party sites. A weapon named after him in the game's own data template is about as close to a ruling as this game offers, so we use Gray throughout the site. Two other entries carry names that look like they belong to other classes: Lava Double Axe and Iron Greatsword are both tagged light despite reading as heavy weapons, which is a reminder that the class tag in the data is authoritative and the name on the item is not.

Step-by-Step

  1. Forge light when you are still hunting for sub-stats. Three ore per attempt at a stated 100 percent means you can afford many more rolls than any other class allows.
  2. Aim at the 11 band rather than the peak. Six light weapons sit at 11 base attack, which puts them within 12 percent of Betrayal at a fraction of the search effort.
  3. Push crit chance to somewhere between 65 and 90 percent for this class. Light weapons need less than heavies or bows because their attack speed converts crit chance into results faster.
  4. Do not read SilverAsh or Horn Spire as weak. Both store an unfilled default rather than a real number, and SilverAsh is documented as a Season 1 store exclusive, which is a plausible reason its forge-pool value was never entered.
  5. Match the scroll family to the class: the four sword scrolls, Swift, Madness, Pierce and Flame, are the light weapon family in the scroll list.

FAQ

What is the strongest light weapon?

Betrayal at 12.5 published base attack, with Hellforged Blade next at 12. Two light weapons, SilverAsh and Horn Spire, have no published value at all, so a stronger one could exist without being visible in the data.

Are light weapons actually better than heavy weapons?

The community wiki FAQ says yes on value grounds, citing attack speed. The raw numbers show a peak of 12.5 against 16.5 for heavy, but at three ore per attempt instead of sixteen, so the comparison is about how many attempts you can afford rather than about the ceiling.

How much crit chance does a light weapon want?

Between 65 and 90 percent, the lowest target of any class alongside gauntlets. Heavy weapons and bows are told to aim for 90 to 100 percent instead.
