Orc Mini-Boss: Air-Slice and Leap
What this page helps you decide: whether to trade with an Orc pack or pick them apart, and how to use the long recovery after its leap.
The Orc appears twice in the official Beastiary, once as an elite mini-boss and once as a boss, and both entries carry the same two moves. It is rated caution rather than a plain danger level, has a high health pool, and comes in groups. Its two attacks are Air-Slice, where it faces you, raises a slightly bent arm and slashes the air to release a shockwave, and Leap, marked by a circular indicator and followed by a long period lying prone on landing. The Starless Forest guide adds the number that makes those useful: both attacks sit on cooldowns of roughly eight seconds. That is a slow enough rhythm to plan around, and it is why an Orc that has just landed is a free damage window.

The eight-second rhythm is the whole fight
Very few enemies in this game have a published cooldown, which makes the Orc unusually plannable. Eight seconds is longer than most skill cooldowns, so the practical structure of the fight is: dodge one attack, spend a rotation, dodge the next. Where players lose health is by treating the gap as a chance to reposition rather than to attack, and then being caught mid-rotation by the next Air-Slice. The shockwave is the more dangerous of the two moves in a group, because it travels rather than landing in a marked circle, so it is the one that hits you while you are dealing with a different Orc.
A contradiction worth knowing about stuns
The Beastiary's elite table marks the Orc as stunnable while noting that some maps carry variants which cannot be stunned. The official Starless Forest guide takes a harder line, stating that no boss or mini-boss can be stunned at all and that they rest between attacks instead. Both are official pages on the same wiki, edited within a day of each other in July 2026. We are not going to resolve that from outside the game. The safe reading is the conservative one: plan the fight around the eight-second attack gaps, which works whether or not your stun lands, and treat a successful stun as a bonus rather than as part of your rotation.
The boss version, and what changes
The Beastiary lists an Orc boss with the same two moves, and the Starless Forest guide names the Orc as one of that world's three bosses alongside the Lava Golem and the Dragon of Evil. Nothing published says the boss version gains a move, only that boss and mini-boss forms cannot be stunned. What does change is context: as a boss it is fought alone in an arena rather than in a group, which removes the main reason the Beastiary advises against trading. The other thing worth knowing is that by level 35 a heavy weapon's ultimate is described as capable of deleting bosses, which makes the Orc boss a short fight for a character who came back to farm the map.
Step-by-Step
- Read which attack is starting from the arm. Air-Slice begins with the Orc facing you and raising a slightly bent arm; Leap paints a circular indicator on the ground instead.
- Leave the circle for the leap rather than dashing through it, then attack immediately on landing - the recovery from that landing is long, and it is the largest window this enemy gives you.
- Count roughly eight seconds between attacks. That cooldown is published for the Starless Forest encounter and it means an Orc that just acted cannot punish a committed skill rotation.
- Do not trade with a group. The Beastiary says orcs appear in groups and that trading with them is usually not worthwhile, because the shockwave from one arrives while you are committed to another.
- Check whether stunning works on the version in front of you. The elite is listed as stunnable, with the note that some maps have variants that cannot be stunned, while the official Starless Forest guide states that no boss or mini-boss in the game can be stunned.
- Break line of sight or reposition when two Orcs act together, since both attacks are directional and neither tracks you after it starts.
Data Tables
| Attack | Tell | Counter | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air-Slice | Faces you, raises a slightly bent arm, slashes the air | Move out of the shockwave path; it does not track | About 8 seconds |
| Leap | Circular indicator on the ground | Leave the circle, then attack the long prone recovery | About 8 seconds |
Moves from the official Beastiary; the cooldown figure comes from the official Starless Forest guide's version of the same enemy.
Tips & Notes
- Ultimates recharge more often on lower-damage characters, so an Orc pack is a reasonable place to spend one rather than save it - an unfired ultimate is wasted charge.
- Swap weapons after each skill cycle. Against an enemy with an eight-second rhythm you will complete more cycles per fight than usual, and the swap is free damage.
- The Orc is one of only two enemies in the Beastiary that appears in both the elite and the boss table, the other being the Werewolf under its boss name Wereworld.
FAQ
How do you dodge the Orc's leap?
Step out of the circular indicator it paints before landing. The reward for dodging correctly is the recovery: the Beastiary describes a long period lying prone after it lands, which is the best damage window the enemy offers.
Can the Orc be stunned?
The elite entry says yes but notes some maps have variants that cannot be, while the official Starless Forest guide says no boss or mini-boss can be stunned at all. Both are official pages, and we do not have a way to resolve them from outside the game.
Should I fight a group of Orcs?
Not by trading. The Beastiary says they appear in groups and that trading is usually not worth it. Their attacks are directional and do not track, so repositioning between the roughly eight-second cooldowns is the better approach.
