Golem Boss: Walls, Spin, Flurry
What this page helps you decide: where to stand during each Golem attack, and whether the variant in front of you is safe to trade with.
The Golem is one boss with two elemental variants: the Lava Golem in Starless Forest and the Ice Golem in Frozen Valley. Their move sets are nearly identical and the difference is documented precisely, which is why they share a page rather than being split into two near-identical ones. Three moves are published. Walls raises both arms and generates five pillars, and the Beastiary states this one belongs to the ice variant alone. Spin is a rotating attack that mainly hits the corners of the circular arena, which makes the centre the safe ground. Flurry raises and rotates both fists before a rapid series of punches. Most of what it does comes straight forward, so the whole fight is a positioning problem.

The 90 percent line, and what it really says
The Beastiary makes an unusual claim about this boss: cycling your skills while side-stepping at random will get you through most of the fight, and it puts a rough figure on it. The reason is mechanical rather than statistical. The Golem's attacks are long, and long animations commit it to a facing. Once it is committed, lateral movement takes you out of the arc without needing to read which specific attack is coming. That is a very different fight from the Dragon, where the Laser-Beam tracks faster than you can dash and closing distance is the answer, or the Werewolf, where lateral movement is the mistake that kills you. It is worth learning the Golem as the boss where generic movement is enough, because none of the others are.
Two variants, one page, and the difference between them
Lava Golem is the Starless Forest boss and Ice Golem is the Frozen Valley boss. The only documented mechanical difference is that the ice variant has Walls, the five-pillar move. The practical difference is the tier you meet them in: the Lava Golem is a Tier 1 boss you can safely trade with, while the Ice Golem is fought in a tier where the official guide warns that boss fights can run to six minutes if your damage is short. We keep them on one page because splitting them would mean publishing the same three move descriptions twice with the tier name changed, which is exactly the kind of thin duplicate page that helps nobody. Where the sources distinguish them, this page does.
What is not published
No health values for either variant, no damage figures, no cooldowns and no phase transitions. The Walls move's function is described - five pillars - without stating what the pillars do, whether they block movement, block projectiles or deal damage on contact. Whether a third variant exists is unclear, though the Beastiary does mention a third-map variant when describing the Dragon, so the pattern may repeat. Drop tables do not exist for any boss in this game, and one competing database lists exactly one boss entry for the entire game, called Tower Boss and marked as needing testing. Everything above is behaviour, and behaviour is all anybody has published.
Step-by-Step
- Fight from its side or from right up against it. The Beastiary notes most of its attacks strike directly in front, so the front arc is the only genuinely dangerous ground.
- Move to the centre when Spin starts. The rotation hits mainly the corners of the circular arena, so the middle is where the attack is weakest.
- Expect Walls only from the Ice Golem. Five pillars raised with both arms is documented as unique to the ice variant, so a Lava Golem fight has one fewer thing to track.
- Keep cycling skills with random side-steps. The Beastiary says its long animations lock it facing one direction, and that cycling skills while side-stepping unpredictably works about 90 percent of the time.
- Trade with the Lava Golem if you want to. The official Starless Forest guide describes it as having a large health pool but posing little threat to most players, which makes it one of the few bosses you can stand and fight.
- Do not try to stun either variant. No boss or mini-boss in this game can be stunned; their rest between attacks is the window instead.
Data Tables
| Move | Tell | Where it lands | Variant |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walls | Raises both arms | Generates five pillars | Ice Golem only |
| Spin | Rotating attack | Mainly the four corners of the circular arena | Both |
| Flurry | Raises and rotates both fists | Rapid punches, forward arc | Both |

Tips & Notes
- The centre of the arena being safest during Spin is the reverse of most arena advice, so resist the instinct to back away to the edge.
- By level 35 a heavy weapon's ultimate is described as capable of deleting bosses, which turns a repeat Lava Golem into a short fight.
- Breaking scenery props charges your ultimate, and a boss arena with props is worth a few seconds of prop clearing before you engage.
FAQ
How do you dodge the Golem's Spin?
Stand in the middle. The Beastiary says the rotation mainly hits the corners of the circular arena, so the centre is the safe ground during that attack.
What is the difference between the Lava Golem and the Ice Golem?
The Ice Golem has Walls, a move that raises both arms and generates five pillars, and the Beastiary states this is unique to the ice variant. Otherwise the movesets match; the Lava Golem is the Starless Forest boss and the Ice Golem the Frozen Valley one.
Can you trade damage with the Golem?
With the Lava Golem, yes. The official Starless Forest guide describes it as having a large health pool but posing little threat to most players. The Ice Golem is fought in a tier where fights can run six minutes if your damage is short.
