What this page helps you decide: what to sell and what to hold, using the only published price list for the things you sell rather than the things you buy.

Quill runs the building marked Merchant and exists to turn things you are not using into Gold. His greeting is I can see through the value of your items, and the single dialogue option, Sell my items, opens the merchant menu. The rule for what he will take is simple and worth knowing precisely: anything, equipment and items alike, except the weapon and armour you currently have equipped. That makes him the counterpart to Torgar, who takes your Gold at the Grocery, and it makes the official ore table double as a price list - because every one of the 46 ore types has a published sale value.

Reading the ore table as a price list

The official ore table lists 46 ores across seven rarity bands with a level, a multiplier and a Gold value each, and the Gold column is the part relevant to Quill. Values track level closely: Sand Rock at level 1 sells for 2 Gold, Copper at level 2 for 3, Verdanite at level 13 for 14, Painstone at level 21 for 26, Voidstar at level 26 for 40, Witherite at level 43 for 68, and the level 90 Lionite for 260. Roughly, the sale value is about double the multiplier, which is a useful shortcut when you are looking at an unfamiliar ore. It also means selling low-tier ore is nearly pointless once you are past the early game: forty Sand Rock is worth less than one Frozanite.

What the sell restriction actually protects you from

Only the currently equipped weapon and armour are protected. Everything else in your inventory is sellable, which includes items you may be saving deliberately: a second weapon you swap to after each skill cycle, the painstone you are collecting three of, the relic that turns a 5% gauntlet forge into a 52% one. The game protects what you are wearing and nothing else, and none of the sources describe a confirmation prompt or a buyback option. That makes Quill the one NPC where a misclick is unrecoverable, which is a reason to visit him deliberately with a plan rather than to clear inventory space in a hurry.

What is not published about selling

Equipment sale values are not published anywhere - only ore has a price column. Whether an item's blessing level, enchantment or sub-stats change what Quill pays for it is undocumented. Whether prices vary by merchant, difficulty or season is not stated. And the value of consumables and materials on the sell side is unpublished, even though several of them have a published buy price at the Grocery. So this page is confident about ore and honest about everything else: if you want to know what your forged sword is worth, nobody has published a way to work that out.

Step-by-Step

  1. Sell ore you will never forge with. The official ore table publishes a Gold value for all 46 ore types, ranging from 2 Gold for Sand Rock up to 260 for Lionite.
  2. Hold mythic and legendary ore rather than selling it, even at good prices. The official progression advice is to hoard those until your character level is well past the ore's own level.
  3. Unequip before you sell. The one published restriction is that the weapon and armour you are currently wearing cannot be sold, so a piece you thought you had sold may still be on your character.
  4. Sell surplus scrolls, which became sellable to merchants in Update 11.1. Before that patch they were dead weight in an inventory.
  5. Fund Grocery trips from ore sales. A single Lionite covers most of a Gold Potion at 2,000 Gold only in bulk - at 260 Gold each it takes roughly eight of them - which tells you how the two economies relate.
  6. Keep failed forge attempts in mind as sale stock. Staffs, light breastplates and heavy helmets come out as intended only 80% of the time, and the misses are still items with a value.

Tips & Notes

  • The ore table contains two different ores both called Jade, at Uncommon level 42 and Rare level 4, with different image files - so a guide that lists Jade once is missing one of them.
  • Torgar accepts Gold, Bond Currency and Robux, while Quill deals in Gold only, which makes Gold the currency that connects the two halves of the economy.
  • Gold is also consumed by blessing, from 2,000 at +1 up to 30,000 at +12, so selling stock is a blessing budget as much as a shopping one.

FAQ

What can you sell to Quill in Iron Soul: Dungeon?

Any equipment or item except the weapon and armour you currently have equipped. His menu opens through the single dialogue option, Sell my items, in the building marked Merchant.

How much is ore worth?

Between 2 and 260 Gold depending on the ore. The official ore table publishes a value for all 46 types, with Sand Rock at 2 Gold at the bottom and the level 90 Lionite at 260 Gold at the top.

Can you sell scrolls?

Yes, since Update 11.1, which added the ability to sell scrolls to merchants. Before that patch they could not be sold at all.
