Ali: Hatching and Expeditions
What this page helps you decide: which of Ali's three pet systems to spend on next, since they consume completely different resources.
Ali runs the pet stall, positioned beside the Dragon's Grave entrance, and every pet interaction in this game happens at that one spot. Three separate systems live behind his menu: enhancing, which feeds cave materials and Gold into a pet's level; ascension, which consumes a duplicate pet to push past the enhancement ceiling; and expeditions, which send spare pets out to collect Gold with a small chance of returning an egg. He also hatches eggs, including the Ice Dragon's Egg that Cinder eventually gives you. Two independent sources place him and describe the same functions, which is more agreement than most of this game's NPC documentation gets.

Three systems, three different currencies
The reason to think of Ali's menu as three systems rather than one is that nothing transfers between them. Enhancing is limited by Cave Tickets, because the materials come from the Abandoned Courtyard and tickets come from the daily quest menu. Ascension is limited by duplicates, which come from eggs, which come from codes, dungeon milestones, season rewards or expeditions. Expeditions are limited by spare pets, which is the resource you have most of early and least of once you start feeding duplicates into ascension. So the three compete: a duplicate you send on an expedition is not available to ascend with, and the Gold an expedition returns is the same Gold enhancing consumes.
What the egg from an expedition can be
The published description is unusually generous: the egg an expedition can return is able to hatch any pet in the game. Taken literally that includes the three pets whose acquisition route is otherwise unpublished - Storm Eagle, Moon Spirit and Faith Guardian - and the Robux-only Phoenix Kitsune. What is missing is the number: the chance is described as very small by the official pets page and as a very small chance by an independent database, and neither attaches a percentage. Without a rate, expeditions are best treated as a Gold system with an occasional bonus rather than as a pet acquisition strategy you can plan around.
Ali is why pet guides mention a removed dungeon
The stall is described as being at the Dragon's Grave entrance, and Dragon's Grave is the Season 1 portal dungeon that two independent sources say is no longer in the game. That produces a confusing situation for new players reading older guides: the landmark used to describe where Ali stands may itself no longer be enterable. A second source describes his location simply as a pet stall without the landmark, which suggests the stall persists regardless. If you cannot find the Dragon's Grave portal, look for the stall itself rather than the dungeon entrance.
Step-by-Step
- Walk to the pet stall near the Dragon's Grave entrance. That location is worth remembering because the dungeon it sits beside may no longer be enterable, while the stall still is.
- Choose the first dialogue option, Pet enhance and ascend, then pick the pet you want to work on. Two tabs appear, Enhance and Ascend.
- Use Enhance when you have cave materials. It consumes Abandoned Courtyard materials plus Gold, with Broken Scales the only material named in any source, and it has no failure chance at all.
- Use Ascend when you have a duplicate. The official example takes an Icy Dragonet from ascension 1 to 2 by consuming a second Icy Dragonet.
- Send spare pets on expeditions rather than leaving them idle. They collect Gold and have a very small chance of returning a pet egg, which can hatch any pet in the game.
- Keep one usable pet at home. An expedition takes a pet out of your active roster, and running dungeons without one gives up whatever sub-stats it was providing.
Data Tables
| System | Consumes | Produces | Failure chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enhance | Abandoned Courtyard materials plus Gold | Pet levels | None |
| Ascend | A duplicate pet | Higher ascension level | Not published |
| Expedition | Time and a spare pet | Gold, and rarely an egg | Not applicable |

Tips & Notes
- Pets are one of three places sub-stats can roll, alongside equipment and your currently equipped scroll, with Movement Speed, Dash Distance and Dash Charge Rate specifically able to appear there.
- Update 11.2 increased pet damage and Update 11.3 added a toggle for pet visual effects, so both the value and the visibility of pets changed during Season III.
- One third-party guide describes enhancement as feeding duplicate pets, which conflates it with ascension - the official page is clear that enhancing consumes materials.
FAQ
Where is Ali in Iron Soul: Dungeon?
At the pet stall, described by one source as beside the Dragon's Grave entrance. He handles hatching, enhancing, ascension and expeditions, which makes his stall the only place any pet system can be used.
How do you enhance a pet?
Talk to Ali, choose Pet enhance and ascend, select the pet, then use the Enhance tab. It consumes materials from the Abandoned Courtyard plus Gold, with Broken Scales named as the material, and it never fails.
What do pet expeditions give you?
Gold, plus a very small chance of returning a pet egg that can hatch any pet in the game. No source publishes the actual chance, so it is not something to plan a pet acquisition around.
