Cave of Runes Ticket GuideIron Soul: Dungeon · Updated 2026-09-04

What this page helps you decide: whether to spend a Cave Ticket on runes or on one of the other two caves, and which cave level is worth entering for the rune tier you need.

The Cave of Runes is one of three ticket caves in Iron Soul: Dungeon, and the only source of runes for enchanting outside the shop. Entry costs one Cave Ticket, it takes up to four players like every other dungeon here, and it comes in four cave levels which drop different rune levels. Those four facts are the entire published mechanical description, and the three caves share all of them - what separates them is what falls out at the end. This page covers what the cave drops, where tickets come from, what a rune is actually worth once you have one, and the numbers that no source publishes, which unfortunately includes both the ticket cost of a full clear and any drop rate at all.

Which rune you actually want

The four types are not interchangeable and the official guidance is specific about when each is good. Corrode raises all damage the target takes from every source, does not stack, and refreshes duration on reapplication - but its cooldown is short enough that uptime is near constant, so carrying several is still recommended. Burn and Methysis are both damage over time with identical mechanics: one rune sustains one stack, so extra stacks need extra runes of the same type. They are strong early and fall off noticeably later. Frost slows the target and detonates for burst damage when the slow ends, and it benefits from Corrode's damage amplification, which is why endgame players use it for crowd control. Rune procs have no internal cooldown, so faster attacks mean more triggers.

The three caves are the same shape with different loot

All three ticket caves - Cave of Runes, Cave of Crystal and Abandoned Courtyard - take four players, cost a Cave Ticket and have four levels. That symmetry is useful when planning, because it means the only question is what you are short of: runes for enchanting, crystals for blessing, or materials for pet enhancing. One wrinkle is worth knowing: the Season 3 Expansion on 28 August 2026 is recorded as adding a Cave of Crystal trial dungeon, even though the crystal cave was already fully described on a page edited 26 June 2026. The likely reading is that a trial difficulty was added to an existing cave rather than a new cave being created, but the sources do not say that outright, so we do not either.

What is not published about this cave

Three things you would want before spending a ticket. How many tickets a full clear consumes is described by one third-party site as not cross-verified. What the drop rate for any rune tier is, at any cave level, is published nowhere. And which of the four cave levels yields which rune level is stated only as a general rule rather than a mapping. There is one adjacent item worth naming: the Rune Crack, obtained through Milo's enchanting area, with a Rune Cracker improvement recorded in Update 11.1. Its function is not documented in detail either. This is a cave with a clearly described purpose and almost no published numbers, and we would rather say that than invent a rate.

Step-by-Step

  1. Collect Cave Tickets from the daily quest menu, which is the only published source for them. The number of tickets a day pays out is not published anywhere.
  2. Pick the cave level for the rune tier you want. There are four levels and each yields a different rune level, though no source lists which level maps to which rune tier.
  3. Expect one of four rune types: Frost, Burn, Corrode or Methysis. Both the official rune page and an independent item database list the same four, with no fifth type.
  4. Take the rune to Milo in the Enchant building to fit it, and remember slot potency: a rune fitted to a weapon works at 100%, to armour at 60% and to a helmet at 40%.
  5. Compare against the shop before committing a ticket. Torgar's Grocery sells level 3 Burn, Methysis, Corrode and Frost runes at 3,000 Gold each, so a ticket is only worth spending if you want a tier the shop does not stock or you are short of Gold.
  6. Do not upgrade a rune without comparing numbers first. Upgrading rerolls every property - trigger chance, damage, duration and tick damage - and the official guidance is that a higher level rune has a better possible range but is not guaranteed to beat a lucky low-level one.

Tips & Notes

  • Do not run Frost and Burn in the same build. Two community articles report that the fire effect removes the freeze before its damage lands, which wastes the Frost payload.
  • Milo also fuses runes and can unenchant equipment, so the cave is only the first half of the loop - the decision about where a rune goes happens at his building.
  • The Grocery's level 3 rune price of 3,000 Gold gives you a rough exchange rate for a Cave Ticket, which otherwise has no published value.

FAQ

How do you get Cave Tickets in Iron Soul: Dungeon?

From the daily quest menu, which is the only published source. The daily quantity is not published, and neither is the number of tickets a full cave clear consumes.

What runes drop in the Cave of Runes?

Frost, Burn, Corrode and Methysis - the same four types the official rune page lists. The cave has four levels which yield different rune levels, but no source maps a specific level to a specific rune tier.

Where should I put a Corrode rune?

On your weapon, and a second on your helmet if you have one. Runes work at 100% in a weapon slot, 60% in armour and 40% in a helmet, and the official endgame recommendation is Corrode on weapon and helmet with Frost or Burn on armour.
